How I set healers when leading

A few months ago, I was asked to organize the healers during raids. I have attempted to so to the best of my ability. I have asked advice from clerics in KotG and in other guilds. The most important thing for healers to do is to work as a team. The number one priority for the heal team is keeping the tank alive. In most cases, we do not have the luxury of one cleric refraining from healing the tank to guard his or her own group because we simply lack the number of clerics that would require.

Recently, when looking at our typical raid attendance, we have about 5 main clerics who regularly choose to raid with us. We all know real life comes first, and many times 1 or 2 of us have other obligations. This leaves only 3 clerics on average at any given raid. If one cleric is designated to â€Ëœsit outâ€â„¢ from healing the main tank, that leaves only 2 clerics to heal the MT. There are not nearly as many heal strategies that can be successfully carried out with 2 clerics as can be with 3 or more. This is not meant to leave out our wonderful druids and shammies, but at this point, when asked, most of them do not feel confident enough to join a heal chain.

We do look at the raid as a whole, and try to make sure each group has a healer. We do try to match a healerâ€â„¢s ability with the group they are placed in. If a healer sends me a tell indicating that they do not feel confident to heal the group they have been placed in, I will talk to that person, try to reassure them, and if they still feel they cannot heal that group, request a change of group for that person.

When heal strategies are communicated to me, I do my best to carry them out. When no heal strategy has been communicated to me by the raid leader, I talk to other clerics in the raid to find out their experiences with the event and their thoughts on what strategies would be successful. Our healers, including druids and shammies, and support such as necros, work best when we work as a united team, with no one either choosing to sit on the sidelines or being forced to do so by other team members. I hope all of our healers will continue to work together as a team to help this wonderful guild reach its potential.
