A melee's planar brief

I just wanted to post a quick something about how melees should behave on raids. Expect a more detailed guide from Treean soon. This is just some high level stuff.

It's pretty much standard operating procedure in the planes. Melees beat stuff down while casters nuke, clerics heal, etc.

There are some rules, however....you've heard them before.

1) Do NOT run ahead to meet mobs. I've played a melee to high levels, so I can speak from experience. Melees are very eager to engage....they feel they're not contributing if they're not hitting the mob. As you watch a group of melees, you notice that they keep creeping forward cuz everyone wants to beat the "other guy" to the mob and start dealing damage. DONT do that. In Hate, we'll be spending a fair bit of time at the portal area, which has an arch. We MUST fight mobs inside that room....inside the arch. A gravity flux outside that room means you aggro mobs from the 2nd floor, and we all die. It's just that simple.

I'm going to say that again. Do NOT creep forward, and do NOT run out to engage mobs. We MUST let the puller bring the mob inside the portal room.

2) We'll get fairly frequent multi-pulls and our enchanters will, of course, mez adds. We will establish a Main Assist, whose job is to select targets and break mez. The MA is the ONLY person who should break a mez. That means when a mob dies, you do NOT run over to the nearest mob and engage. You wait for the MA to select a target and call out the signal to assist him.

3) As an exception to #2, Spite Golems are unmezzable. We will establish a Secondary Assist, whose job is to target Spite Golem adds and split tank them. We'll call for certain groups to assist the MA, and certain groups to assist the SA.

4) Dont use the shout channel. That's reserved for raid leaders. Also, please try to keep OOC chatter to a minimum.

4) As a follow up to #4, its very important that you watch the chat for instructions. We'll be calling out various directions including, "Back up!", "Camp!", "Split tank Golems!" etc....

5) In the event of a wipeout, we MUST get at least one cleric camped, or we'll be forced to rebreak (which in the case of Hate would cost us thousands of plat). YOUR job as a melee is to protect the clerics so they can camp out. Yep...that means you're gonna die. It also means you'll get a timely rez.
