First for those of you who are not familiar with it Magelo (magelo.com) offers you the ability to show what your character has in the way of equipment (and inventory) and to allow you to see by changing what items the character is using what you gain/lose when you do so. For example I created a Magelo for Murdakin and an Alternate Profile showing me wearing full resist gear. This allows me to know in advance just how far my HP and INT drops wearing the resist gear and how much my resists are increased by wearing this gear.

So, Magelo is a very useful tool for anyone. But how do you use it? First thing you need to do is go to Magelo Website and register. Now, magelo is a funny web site, it can cause you all sorts of problems if your Firewall or Web Browser isn't configured right. Also, it uses a few popups, so if you use a Popup Stopper like I do, turn it off for the duration of your visit. If you use a Firewall (Norton or ZoneAlarm) turn it off and visit the Magelo Troubleshooting Guide for instructions on how to configure your Firewall to work with magelo.

Now, you've done all that and are ready to register. Just click Register on the top of the magelo.com web site and follow the prompts. Now your ready to begin.

So, first thing you want to do is not create a character but click on the "Magelo Update" link. This client will run while you play EQ and get a list of what equipment/inventory/etc your character has. Its very useful if you have alot of mules or are Guild Banker or just a pack rat like me.

To get the file, at the bottom of that page, click on Magelo Update Installer and download the file to your system. Unzip the file into its own folder and double click "Magelo Update Setup.exe" then from the menu select Magelo then Settings. From here we can configure Magelo to Lauch EQ whenever it starts and whether or not to auto save the character and where. Configure it as you want, I personally have it run EQ after I start it and to auto save the characters.

With the Magelo Update running, startup EQ and log into your main character or whoever you want to creat a magelo for. Once your in the game magelo will create a text file (ie. Tholuxe Paells_Murdakin.txt) with all the items that your character has on them. This will save alot of time when you are trying to create your Magelo profile the first time.

Now, exit EQ (save the character, if necessary) and go back to the magelo website so we can create the character. Login to the site if necessary, and click "Characters", then "Add a character", fill in all the information you have on the character (open up the text file that Magelo Update created, it will save time) then once your finished click "Add this character" at the bottom of the page.

Once you've created your character, you need to, at a minimum, list what equipment s/he is wearing. To do this click "Manage his Equipment" This is where Magelo has recently done there updates. And where they blew away all the old Magelo's that people had, I'll tell you the quick way of creating it.

Open up the text file created by Magelo Update (I use notepad). Then for each of the equipment slots click on the slot (so that Selected Slot: NONE, changes to the appropriate slot) and then refer to your character file, see that number at the end of each item? That is the number you enter in the "Item ID or partial name:" field. For example, |-Shoulder: Mantle of Study [2189], you want the put the 2189 in the field.

Just copy and paste it over (much easier than typing the full name out I find). Then just click proceed. Continue with all the items you have until your done, then click "Save your equipment" to make sure everything is saved and you don't have to re-enter it later.

You've now created your very own Magelo profile, click on the link for that character and make sure that everything looks right, if not fix it up... Sticking out tongue

Advanced Stuff
Manage his inventory: Show what you normally carry in your inventory (jboots, etc)
Manage his bank: List what is in your bank (for the die hard only)
Manage his advanced abilities: Allows you to display your AA abilities
Manage his skills: Trade skills etc. fill them in so people know what you can do
Manage his languages: You speak Elder Dragon? Great put it here so people will know
Manage his spellbook: List what spells you have AND more importantly DONT have
Manage his alternate profiles: This is where you setup an alternate profile like "Resist Gear" or "In my Dreams" they will be displayed on your main profile so people can see.

This concludes how to create a Magelo profile. If you have any questions, just ask, I'll either respond or edit these instructions to expand the explanations so that everyone can follow.

Once you've finished I would sugges that you modify your profile so that your sig file contains a link to your magelo. Makes it easier for people to inspect your equipment. Laughing out loud
