Spent wisely it will get you to around 110 smithing, maybe a little less. If this is something you really want to do I have a backpack full of metal bits on an alt in Freeport. He's beyond needing vast quantities of metal bits, so once you hit 20 or so sharpening rusty weapons, send me a tell and I'll pass it on to you.

I don't think it will get you past banded unless you have a buyer for your banded items.
