Ok, been on the new job for 3 days and find that if I had an EQ capable PC/Laptop I could still get plenty of play time as most of my work is phone/brain related, PC just used to enter trades & notes, print letters pretty mundane stuff that can be done in 30 min if you are organized. So here goes:

I was given a HP Omnibook XE2
Pentium II processor (333mhz i think)
6.4 GB hard drive 4.3 GB free
64 Megs of Ram I think upgradeable to 256 max
as for video card I am not real tech savvy best i can figure out is under my computer/properties/display adapter it lists "Silicon Motion LynxE" Not sure if this is the right info to provide but I need help turning this into an EQable machine

I definately will & can drop in the extra Ram myself to get to 256 but beyond that can anyone comment on the rest of the system specs? just need to get it to min acceptable EQ level, thanks,

HP huh? hummm

ok question is 6.4 GB hard drive 4.3 GB free; before or after EQ is installed? if before you got problems

HPs are not gaming systems so you are going to have to upgrade the video card. i am sure of the system specs of this system (though considering what i sue to to for a living i should) but knowing HP the vidoe is onthe board. so first off you are going ot have to disable the on board video (assuming i am right and it is on board).

the biggest problem i see is you can just about count luclin out with this system; yeah i know it says it should work but even when i had a cable modem i had system issues and i hae a P4 1.8 with 255 mb and a 64mb video card.

sorry i have wored with all brands of systems and i for one am not a fan of HP they have serious issue.

also if you are running win 98 or lower it cannot see 255MB of ran so dont even bother getting that much it is a wate of money.

good luck with the system upgrade and let me know if you hae any other question si will do my best to help you out.

You need more than 4.3GB for EQ? That seems plenty to me.

The processor is kinda slow to run EQ, so you would HAVE to have a kick ass 3D capable video card to run it, and even then it will likely be choppy. Win98 shouldn't have a problem with more RAM, and 256MB would be bare minimum to run EQ. I agree that Luclin would likely be too much for this system. You would not be able to run the new textures very well.

I have not really ever used HP systems, but they are not really known for gaming. So I wouldn't expect much performance from the components included. If anything, you would have to run EQ with bare minimum settings, and even then I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Ok, so it sounds like it will be more trouble than it's worth......hmmmm but I really want to play. Scenario one: Upgrade the HP as recommended, ie video card. On the Ram subject Iane, how much could this system recognize running windows '98? Would it be worth it to upgrade to WinME/2000/XP???
Scenario two: lobby boss for new PC on a lease program, in this case I could get a faster processor, more Hard disk mem, more Ram capacity and better video options. The olny big question here is what platform would be better to use? Dell, Gateway, Compaq, IBM.....? These all have business leasing programs that I know of but who's systems would tipically do better running gaming software as my business software needs are minimal. Thanks all,

If you are going for a new laptop then, try to get the best possible components. Suggestions: Stay away from Windows ME. Win98 is even better than ME. If XP is available, go for it. It is as stable as Win2k, but a bit more gaming friendly. Recommended at least 256MB of RAM, but 512 is better and would be needed if running XP. As for laptops, Dell has some nice systems, and if you can believe it Compaq just came out with a nice laptop great for gaming (Compaq Presario 2800T). Gaming would be served well if the video card is a good one, like the ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 or the Nvidia GeForce4 Go chipsets.
